Sure, I’m just going to sit and watch the plants growing, huh? Why would I do that? The truth is that watching the garden growing is a therapeutic and relaxing way to spend your leisure time. You may not have your own garden (even a window box or a saucer of cress seeds will do), so get out into the local park or botanical garden and “adopt” an area for your own attention. Alternatively, get into a bit of guerrilla gardening and make an impact on your neighbourhood.
Check out the state of shrubs – have they flowered yet, what happens after flowering? Take a look at the trees – are new leaves forming, will they blossom, what fruit are they creating? Hang around the seedlings – what stage are they at, have the initial seed leaves formed, can you see what it is yet (it’s usually a thistle, nettle or dandelion, by the way).
Make it even more fun with a bit of photography. Find a location where you can take regular pictures from exactly the same spot, then snap away, once a day, once a week or however often you feel moved to do so. Your stop motion film can be played in your photo software with a little judicious editing.
Plants – they were here first and will be here after we are long gone. Watch them – they know something.
